The Team
Sage Barfield
Sage holds a Masters in Accountancy from Western Carolina University where she graduated with honors, while winning multiple Southern Conference team championships as an All-American pole vaulter. After graduation, she worked in the audit department of Dixon Hughes Goodman, one of the largest public accounting firms in the Southeast, where her clients included non-profits, private businesses, banks and other financial institutions.
After moving to Boston, Sage accepted a position at a real estate investment company, where she developed and ran systems for internal quality control, external project management, investor communications, and financial planning with institutional equity and credit partners. With the accounting and asset management departments, she developed information systems to track private investments, provide performance reporting, and anticipate problems that could lead to adverse situations.
In 2020, Sage and Jake returned to her native Buncombe County with their twins. Lately, in her free time, Sage enjoys reading good books, playing tennis (poorly), and watching Survivor.
Sage holds her Series 65 license.
Jake Barfield
Jake Barfield is the former founder and portfolio manager of Asheville Capital Management. Before that he worked at Bares Capital Management and Nine Ten Capital Management. Jake has a Bachelor's degree from Western Carolina University and a Master's degree from Boston College. Throughout both degree programs Jake served in the US Army National Guard. Jake lives in Asheville with his wife, Sage, and together they are raising two wonderful twins, Clark and Laurel Barfield.
Jake holds his Series 65 license.
